Episode Synopsis
If you enjoy our podcast, please leave a quick rating. It only takes a minute and it means the world to us. In last week's episode, we talked about the Guitar Tone Pyramid and how to use it dial in heavy tones without losing your mind in the process. This week, let's talk about how to record those bad-ass tones. If you're happy with the sound coming out of your amp, it doesn't mean you'll automatically get a great sounding finished recording. Although almost at the top of our tone pyramid, mic technique is still a HUGE part of getting an awesome sound. The good news here is it doesn't have to be complicated. Using a single dynamic microphone, we can get a killer tone using the same type of methodical testing we used last week. Feeling more adventurous? We'll cover a famous 2-mic technique as well. You will learn:Why dynamic microphones are a nice choice for recording heavy amp tonesHow dial in a good recording with a single microphone using a 2 step positioning methodWhat we mean by "on-axis" and "off-axis" and how they sound differentWhat the major challenges of recording heavy tones tend to beHow to think about the sound of your amp speaker visually to help you with a position starting pointThis history and theory behind the Fredman technique (a 2-mic technique using Shure SM57 mics)Why the Fredman technique lets you get to more than the sum of its parts and how to further dial it in to your own tasteA few bits, tips, and tricks about other techniquesWhere to Find the GuysThe DIY Recording Guys WebsiteVadim's Studio Site - Get your FREE test mix today!Benjamin's Studio SiteLeave a rating.
