In the same way that believers eagerly awaited the Lord’s first coming at Christmas, so believers today eagerly await his return on the Last Day. When we understand who our Savior is and what it is that he brings, our hearts are eager for his arrival. The question now is “How do we prepare?” The answer is simple: Repent. John the Baptist was sent to prepare the way for the Lord, calling sinners to repentance. Today, God sends his Word ahead of his arrival to call us to repentance. Christians prepare daily by confessing sins and embracing the promise of forgiveness.
