Listen "176. Scott Hunter on The Gospel of John"
Episode Synopsis
In this episode, we welcome Scott Hunter to take us into The Gospel of John. What is this gospel, and what is the unique voice of John relative to the other three evangelists? Who is this Christ Jesus, what did he come to do – and where is he from? With these questions in mind, Scott takes us through highlights from the text that clearly reveal a God who is Triune: Father, Son and Spirit - and a Christ who is the incarnate Word, truly the unique God and man. Scott takes us through the theme of light and darkness, Jesus as the bridegroom, and who the bride of Jesus really is rooted in his identity as God and who mankind is given our universal condemnation in Adam. What did the temple originally teach us, and who and what is the temple now in light of the first coming of Christ? Is John 7.17 really a pragmatic challenge to base the truth of God on self-defined fruit of a life we choose? How should we understand Jesus’ quotation of Psalm 82 in his teaching that he and his father are One? And did Jesus really teach that we can be one with the Father and the Son in the same exact way that the Father and Son are One with each other? Listen in and hear an example of what Sunday School should be when learning Scripture given time, attention, study and reflection.Check out: Emmanuel OPC in Kent, Washington- Audio- Sermon AudioJames Dennison on the Gospel of JohnBiblical Theology: Old and New Testaments by Geerhardus VosThe Temple and the Church’s Mission by G.
