Listen "Hearer or Doer"

Episode Synopsis

Hearer or Doer? James 1:22- 2522 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the word, this one will be blessed in what he does.   I wonder if there are people who think they have to have a super encounter with the Lord, like a Scripture written in the clouds, or an angel appearance before they will get up and be a doer of the Word. Here in James, the Lord is giving specific instructions to us to be obedient in doing the work of God. We are to hear what He is saying to us, and then do what He is saying for us to do. When we hear and then do nothing, it is one sign of a deceived heart. True faith in our God acts. I am reminded of one of our precious spiritual daughters who came from a hard background. She had no support in furthering her education, no encouragement verbally or financially. She enrolled in a Job Corp program and pushed hard to get good grades. She began attending our services, and quickly became a favorite daughter in the house. She always has had such a giving, helping heart. We were having a fund drive to raise money to finish building our Children’s Home in Kenya. This precious daughter got a huge plastic Coke bottle, about three feet tall, and began saving her change to fill this bottle up. It was amazing to watch! I don’t remember how long it took her to fill it, but fill it she did. Here was a young lady, all out in the world on her own, with no support from parents, or other family members, pushing to get some training to be able to make a living for herself, saving to help others in need. Her gatherings reaped a substantial amount to give towards helping these orphaned children. A few years later, she was able to go on a team to Kenya to minister to these children God’s love and grace. It was a trip of a lifetime for her, and we were so glad she was able to go with us. Yet there were some who had far more to work with financially, yet wouldn’t give very much towards this needed fundraising. Multiple cars, and beautiful homes, five and six digit incomes, fine clothes and cottages on the lake. I wonder if we will hear the Lord praise us for all of these blessings He has bestowed on us. And don’t get me wrong, God wants us to be blessed and enjoy all the blessings He gives us, yet He also wants us to consider those less fortunate than us. He doesn’t want us to just say glib sayings like, “That’s too bad.” Or “poor thing,” and quickly move on with our busy lives. Abba would have us slow down and do whatever we can as our part to help someone else who has far less and possibly no help at all to move out of the dilemma, they find themselves in. I want to be a quick doer of the Lord’s Word. What about you? Can you begin today to move quickly on behalf of those hurting and suffering in the world? Always talk to the Lord about what to do and give. He will direct you and you will become a great blessing to others. Blessings on your day.
