Yesterday, my sister was down from KC… and she had a poem that our grandmother wrote. There isn’t a date on it BUT Grandma Sumpter passed away Christmas Day at the age of 102 ½. If you will indulge me a moment – I want to share this poem with you…CALVARY By Daisy Dean Hare SumpterThere’s a path that leads to CalvaryWhere the King of Glory diedWhere the precious cleansing fountain flowedFrom out His wounded sideHave you ever been to CalvarySeen Him hanging there alone?Did you ever see Him anguish?Did you ever hear Him groan?Once I walked this path to CalvaryAnd my heart was sad and loneBut I heard the Savior saying“For your sins I did atone”Then my burned all was liftedAnd my night was turned to dayNow my soul is filled with gloryAs I walked the homeward wayWon’t you walk this path to CalvaryMeet the Christ the crucifiedWon’t you let Him bear your burdensWon’t you on His love abide?All your sins will be forgivenHe’ll remember them no moreHand in hand He’ll walk beside youTill your journey here is o’er.For such a time as this LORD – Thank you that I had a grandmother who was close to You. May I be such a grandmother to my family… that they will see You – when they look at me…I’m here to tell you this morning… the corruption is deeply embedded and …. We cannot we MUST not allow it to stay!When once a Republic is corrupted, there is no possibility of remedying any of the growing evils but by removing the corruption and restoring its lost principles; every other correction is either useless or a new evil.
