The Lord's Call of His people to serve in Missions and to serve Him through mission trips has always been an integral part of the Evangelical experience in obedience. Mission trips provide people with the world mission experience: to get a taste of foreign surroundings, hear communication in a foreign language, and minister in unique ways and means. However, in the last few decades, The Church has taken a more convenient approach to sharing the gospel. For example, many church members have take the Great Commission to mean serving Christ in a place where: "I can miss one weekend but I have to be back the following Monday". Or "Just as long as I travel north and south, staying on this side of the Atlantic or the Pacific".
