Listen "Waiting for Change: Choose Peace over Hostility"

Episode Synopsis

In the traditional Christian year, Advent is a time of expectant waiting and preparation for celebration of the birth of Jesus. The term is a version of the Latin word meaning “coming”. But our society is not really big on waiting, so these days the Christmas decorations are out in the stores by early October. A song by John Mayer a few years ago, captured the spirit of Advent. Like ancient Israel, we’re “waiting on the world to change.” One glance at our newsfeed each day displays the gap between the current realities of our world and what it could be if God’s perfect will was fulfilled “on earth as it is in heaven.” The kingdom of God is “now and not yet.” And so, in the meantime, we wait and we work for its fulfillment.
