Listen "Sean Ahlum - The State of the Wilmington and SENC Startup Scene - Cold Star Project"
Episode Synopsis
With guest Sean Ahlum, the Cold Star Project dips back to Season One and a look at the startup scene in Wilmington and South Eastern North Carolina. Jason Kanigan, the host of the Cold Star Project, has lived in Wilmington NC for nine out of the past ten years.
Sean is the VP of New Product Business Development at ABILITY Network, and the founder at seaCreatively consultancy. I especially wanted him on because of his experience as Senior Director of Innovation at Castle Branch for four years, during which he headed up energetic community development efforts as Senior Director of a startup incubator co-working space in Wilmington called Tek Mountain.
We cover the current condition of the startup scene in ILM and SENC, including:
what has changed in the past 10 years (I personally arrived in Wilmington to live in 2009, right after the 2008 crash, and support for startups was practically nonexistent)
Sean's experience with the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce board of directors, making use of his post degree certificate in Responsible Board Governance
the mission of his consultancy, seaCreatively, especially in relation to helping the right kind of startup
what Sean Ahlum has directly done in the fields of corporate innovation and community management
how he sees Big Data / machine learning affecting delivery of healthcare services, and what the next realistic step is for AI in healthcare.
