We often crave peace, don't we? Smooth relationships, comfortable coexistence. As followers of Jesus, love and unity are certainly ideals we strive for. But have you ever wrestled with the fact that Jesus himself declared, in Matthew 10:34, "Do not assume that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword"? That's a jarring statement. A sword? What kind of peace is this?And what about in Ezekiel 33, where a watchman is appointed. His job isn't to keep everyone feeling good or to avoid ruffling feathers. No, his duty is to sound the alarm when danger approaches, even if that alarm shatters the current silence, even if it causes fear and disruption.
