He was a finalist in two NASA Astronaut Selections.He maintains membership in the Aerospace Medical Association, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Academy of Sports Medicine, and the Association of Professionals in Infection Control. He co-founded Dimer LLC in 2014 to research, manufacture and sell UV disinfecting machines. The company has been recognized as a NASA iTech award winner, a Time Magazine Top 100 Inventions of 2020 and an Innovation Award from the International Ultraviolet Association.
