The Patrick celebrated on St. Patrick's Day was a real person who was greatly used by God as he walked the way of the cross. He was captured and taken into slavery in Ireland as a teenager. He escaped but returned to Ireland as an adult to share the good news of Jesus. He served as a missionary in Ireland for 30 years. He is an illustration of Jesus' call to deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Him. As we do so we find life.
