Sermon Notes - October 10th
God doesn’t do what I would do if I were God.
This psalm highlights those who prey on the weak or poor, and yet they prosper. For those who want to see justice; this can make us mad. Yet…. Vengeance is mine, said the Lord! So how do we wrestle with these two concepts - we want to do justice. But vengeance is the Lord’s.
Yet, sometimes, we’re the one who’s oppressed. And when we are, we can feel like we’re alone: like God’s not there. David in the psalm cries out, not only saying “where are you” but he calls God to action. “Do something! I’m calling you to intervene” … but he gives it to God, saying “God, this is your battle. you handle this.”
We are not always the answer to the questions we have. When we see injustice, our first act should be to beseech God to fix the issue. When you do this, you take your place off the judgement seat. You say that God is in control. That God should take it in His hands.
What takes the greatest strength? Surrender. Not attempting to impart our own justice. So, the more opportunities God puts in front of us, the more chances we have to surrender and give up our desire for control to God.
