Whenever we are sick, injured, or hurt, there is a healing process. Some processes are longer than others depending on the hurt or illness. Sometimes when those processes are longer, we begin to get used to life with that hurt or illness and it can sometimes begin to define us. Jesus comes across a man who had been lame for decades but before healing him asks the man "Do you want to get well?" It is at this moment that Jesus invited this man (and us) to confront a very difficult problem that we have started to embrace at this point: we would rather be ill or hurt. Jesus can heal us, but a cost comes with this healing.
