Listen "Elise Ray-Statz, Olympic Medalist & University of Washington Gymnastics Head Coach"

Episode Synopsis

Elise Ray-Statz is a national champion and Olympic medal-winning gymnast who’s now head coach of the gymnastics team at the University of Washington, where she’s led the Huskies to top-20 finishes in back-to-back seasons. Elise was part of RISE’s Northwest regional coaches training at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma last month, where coaches from schools throughout the region learned about ways to foster inclusive environments within their team, campus and community by exploring topics such as identity, perspective, and power and ways to engage their students in difficult conversations around race and diversity. Elise joins us to talk about that and her experience competing in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, where she and Team USA earned a bronze medal in one of the more controversial Olympic games.
