Listen "Episode 7 - what’s in your hand"
Episode Synopsis
In Exodus 4:2, when God asked Moses, "What is that in your hand?" (NASB). He initiated a profound revelation of His power and provision. Throughout the forty chapters of Exodus, the word "hand" appears 64 times, with over half occurring from Exodus 3:19 to the crossing of the Red Sea in Exodus 14:30. It was during this time that the invisible, yet mighty hand of the LORD was made manifest through Moses and his staff. 1. Humility: Moses' staff, initially just a shepherd's tool, symbolized his humility and dependence on God's power. Despite being despised by the Egyptians for his vocation, Moses recognized his insignificance without God's favor. As the Psalmist declares, "power belongs to God" (Psalms 62:11). 2. Obedience: When Moses obeyed God's command to throw his staff on the ground and later to catch it by the tail, he demonstrated obedience, despite fear. This act foreshadowed the transformative power of obedience, even in the face of potential danger. 3. Righteousness: Moses' act of putting his hand inside his cloak symbolized an examination of his heart and actions. The leprous hand represented the sinful nature of man. While its restoration signified the cleansing and righteousness required to serve God faithfully. 4. From Staff to Cross: Just as Moses' staff became a symbol of authority through God's power, the cross symbolizes humility, obedience, and righteousness for believers today. Through Jesus Christ, who humbled Himself and became obedient to death on the cross; believers find wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption (1 Corinthians 1:30). 5. Utilizing What's in Your Hand: God's question to Moses echoes throughout scripture; challenging believers to recognize the resources, utilize the resources, skills, and opportunities He provides. Like Moses' staff, what may seem insignificant to us can become a powerful instrument in God's hands. Conclusion: In every situation, God works through the ordinary to accomplish the extraordinary. Just as Moses' staff became a tool of deliverance, believers are called to offer what's in their hands to God in faith, trusting Him to use it for His glory and the fulfillment of His purposes. As we embrace humility, obedience, and righteousness. God transforms our lives and empowers us to impact the world around us.
