Bishop Michael W. Fisher of the Diocese of Buffalo issued a statement in response to to election of Cardinal Robert Prevost (now Pope Leo XIV) as the 267th Bishop of Rome, May 8, 2025. Pope Leo XIV is the first US-born pope in the history of the Catholic Church and succeeds Pope Francis, who passed away April 21, 2025.
