Listen "Blogcast: Living Sickness in the Presence of God"
Episode Synopsis
This blogcast explores “Living Sickness in the Presence of God," written by Fatima Monterrubio Cruess and read by Patrick Hyland. “Living Sickness in the Presence of God,” by Fatima Monterrubio Cruess. In her blog post, Fatima describes how there is a temptation in the midst of sickness to fall into despair, anguish, or self-absorption. However, whether it be common colds, Covid-19, or cancer, God offers us the grace, if we are open to that grace, we can turn that suffering into that contributes to the good of the People of God. Fatima draws the inspiration for this reflection from the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul. St. Paul was known originally as Saul and was an opponent of the early Church. He persecuted Jews who believed in Jesus as the savior. Jesus stopped Saul from persecuting Christians and called him to his side, baptizing him with water and later with the blood of martyrdom. The account of the conversion of Saint Paul (Acts 9: 1-5) serves as an inspiration for those who criticize the Church. Through the example of Paul, Jesus touched the heart of the one who persecuted his people and can also touch ours.
