“In her diary, Charlotte was fierce.’” —Jasmine HolmesIn this episode of Carved in Ebony, Jasmine Holmes and Abena Ansah-Wright discuss Charlotte Forten Grimké, an educator, poet, essayist, and anti-slavery activist. Born into an active abolitionist family in Philadelphia, Grimké became a teacher, and was later asked to teach newly emancipated people on the Sea Islands in North Carolina.
