Paul charged the Philippians to walk in lowliness while pointing to the example of Jesus Christ who despite being God the Son, willingly humbled Himself to the point of death to serve and save sinful man—“the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:282. The Philippians were to be light bearers in a dark world by conducting themselves as children of God through aligning their behavior with the Gospel—“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light” Ephesians 5:83. Paul commended Timothy & Epaphroditus as being leaders who were worthy of honor and esteem as proven by the manner in which they served the Lord Jesus—“Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine” 1 Timothy 5:17
