Paul warned the Colossians to guard against being deceived by the trickery of human philosophies and vain traditions of men—“But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.” 2 Tim. 3:133. Paul reminded the Colossians that the triumph of Jesus Christ at the Cross has delivered the believer from sin and death—“The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 15:56-57
