In this episode, we welcome John Newton, a PhD candidate studying with the Department of European and International Studies at King's College London.John's research aims to to analyse the exchange of ideas between the socialist left in the USA and UK and how the emergence of an international political fandom on social media centered around elected officials impacts this exchange. John's research has involved close study and analysis of thousands of conversations within these fandoms and the wider socialist movements on Twitter.In the episode, John also talks to hosts Clara Goilav and Dan Mansfield about his background in political campaign work, his love of teaching, and his advice for those considering a PhD.
