Mikaela Jones went from buyer at Homebase to launching her own sexual wellness brand, Pleasure Gap. Knowing that she wanted to start her own business, Mikaela did an inventory of what she was passionate about, and sexual wellness for women came out on top (pun intended). For Mikaela, her business was a way of finding her way back to herself post kids, not only in terms of career, but as a woman. We’re under a lot of pressure and expectation at the best of times as women and mums, but when it comes to sex, it can be a lot. Mikaela is such a joy to speak to; open, positive and realistic. Her message for me is, ‘we’re all experiencing the same things’ so let’s talk about them, with our partners, friends, health visitors, doctors, whoever we need to. The way to move through any shame we might have about our sex lives is to share it. But, as she discusses, it’s not easy. Marketing, especially on social media is hard when you’re talking about sex and especially female pleasure.
