An idol is anything that claims to provide the fulfilment that only comes from God himself. Idols diminish us, whereas God frees us. Money and career can be blessings when they serve us, but demanding masters when we serve them. In an age which desperately tries to defy the ageing process, we can embrace ageing and mortality, knowing that Christ is daily transforming us from one degree of glory to another and that we will rise with him in a new body.
