God makes promises for joy... The world makes promises for joy...

It's true... God created us in a fashion so that we have the greatest joy possible when we find our satisfaction in him… He made us that way.

And you see… he is the greatest and the best there is.

And guess what… finding our satisfaction in him is exactly what glorifies him. That's what he wants for us… to find satisfaction in the best there is… Jesus Christ.

You might say he wants us to be a Christian Hedonist by seeking the greatest joy possible by treasuring him for who he is.

Here’s a couple scenarios:

If someone’s job was to trade stocks for profit and they were given a trustworthy tip that the next Amazon or Microsoft was available to buy real cheap… In their joy they would sell all the stocks they owned so they could buy that stock.


If you went to a garage sale and found a antique for 10,000 dollars that you saw valued at 10 million dollars on antique road show… You would go home and in your joy sell all that you had to buy that antique.

Jesus is infinitely greater than all the treasures of the earth combined.

Jesus is the treasure worth selling everything for as Jesus said in Matthew 13:44:

“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

This is an amazing parable and its just one sentence but it focuses on true Christian Hedonism. “In his joy” he sells all of the things on the worlds buffet of promises for Jesus the greatest treasure of all.

Joy in turning from sin to Jesus is not only necessary when we come to Christ but joy is mandatory in our service and worship of him.
