Listen "Arthritis"
Episode Synopsis
Do you or someone you love suffer from arthritis? Well having arthritis is no longer the debilitating condition it once was. It is no longer seen as consequence of growing old, or something to just put up with. In fact there are 3.85 million Australians that are affected and 2.4 million of all people suffering from the disease are of working age. But there are things you can do now to regain the use of your joints that you had lost due to arthritis.
----more----Arthritis Australia describes Arthritis-related problems as including “pain, stiffness, inflammation and damage to joint cartilage (the tissue that covers the ends of bones, enabling them to move against each another) and surrounding structures. This can result in joint weakness, instability and deformities that can interfere with the most basic daily tasks such as walking, driving a car and preparing food.”The three most significant types of arthritis - osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and gout - account for more than 95 per cent of cases in Australia, but there are about 100 forms of arthritis. Aside from the three mentioned above, the most common forms of arthritis are:
Ankylosing spondylitis
Juvenile arthritis
Systemic lupus erythematosus (lupus)
Scleroderma
Research suggests that early intervention can delay the onset of the disease and may reduce the number of cases of osteoarthritis by about 500,000 within 15 years.
Some ways that have been found for helping arthritis are
Exercise
Glucosamine tablets
Fish oil tablets
Bowen therapy
Diet
Surgery
Medication
Bowen’s soaking method.
I have personally found success for clients with a combination of Bowen Therapy, and glucosamine tablets combined with exercise. While it is not seen as a cure, this method has been especially good for treating osteoarthritis. Rheumatoid responds very quickly to just the Bowen therapy, but it often is painful for a couple of days after. The results can last years though.
Thomas Bowen had a special soaking treatment for helping with calcification in joints and bunions. This treatment is great for helping with osteoarthritis.
