Listen "Episode 17 - Reflection on Rest"

Episode Synopsis

Are you just plain tired as we move into fall? That’s the vibe I’m getting from listener feedback, and I’m right there with you! Today’s episode is short and sweet. It’s a reflection on rest in the broader sense…physical, emotional, spiritual. I’m offering a few thoughts about the kind of rest that refreshes and renews…so important for all of us. I’ve even got a great new TobyMac release to share, called (believe it or not) "Rest."
Takeaways:
My acronym for REST.
RENEW YOUR SPIRIT with prayer, meditation, calming reading or music. Try TobyMac’s latest release, “Rest” from his Life After Death album.
EXERCISE YOUR BODY by moving it (walking, stretching) even for 10 min at a time - for a break, to decrease anxiety/depression, and get those endorphins (creating a positive feeling) flowing. Exercise helps us rest!
SLEEP, with a goal of 7 hours, allowing for REM sleep. The brain is busy during sleep, as it sorts and stores info from your day, cells repair, immunity is strengthened, the sympathetic nervous system relaxes keeping BP down, and cortisol (stress hormone) levels decrease. Develop a sleep routine that calms you and make it a priority.
TEND SUPPORTIVE RELATIONSHIPS, determining who will listen to understand, not always to respond. Is this a family member, friend, therapist, pastor?
