Listen "Episode 15 - Lessons from Peoria"

Episode Synopsis

On August 6 I traveled to Peoria, IL, to address participants in a JDRF Community Rally. A number of families in attendance were adjusting to a new Type 1 diabetes diagnosis. Others had been living with the condition for years. I was asked to talk about “Building a Support Network,” the topic Ashley Coker and I discussed in Episode 14. Along with our son, Noah, I shared three salient points about taking advantage of the resources provided by your medical team, cultivating in-person support, and finding trustworthy resources online. I summarize those ideas in this episode. I also offer reflections about a few of the incredible people I met at the event and the inspirational stories they shared with me. The lessons in their stories are transferable to family caregivers of all sorts as well as the loved ones they support. So much positive energy in one place! I had to share it with you!
