This child, named Jesus, will be called the Son of the Most High and will reign eternally over the house of Jacob. The Birth of John the Baptist (Luke 1:57-80): Elizabeth gives birth to John, and at his circumcision, Zechariah’s speech is restored. Filled with the Holy Spirit, he prophesies about John’s role as the forerunner of the Messiah and praises God for His salvation and mercy. Zechariah’s song, known as the Benedictus, highlights God’s faithfulness to His covenant and the coming of a Savior who will bring light and peace.
