Send us a textAfter Jesus told the story of the Sower or farmer who scattered seed to the crowd His disciples asked him for the meaning of the story. Luke introduced the context in chapter 8 with these words:Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him. Jesus tells the story to the crowd without reference to the kingdom. But when the crowd disbands his disciples  asked him the meaning of the story. Mark 4:10 When he was alone, the Twelve and the others around him asked him about the parables.  He told them, “The secret of the kingdom of God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables  so that,“‘they may be ever seeing but never perceiving,    and ever hearing but never understanding;otherwise they might turn and be forgiven!’” He then gives the meaning of the story in light of God's elective purposes of grace. Each element is defined- the sower, the seed and the soil but the climax of the story is the abundant harvest from the seed planted in the good soil.Who is the principle Sower, the associated sowers? What is the seed? Primarily and secondarily?What is the soil in reference to the kingdom of God?There is more to the story than meets the ear on the first telling!
