In the ancient times, the rishis used the 'arani' wood to generate fire for their rituals, by rubbing the two pieces of wood together. Nutan Swamiji explains that the fire is already hidden in the wood, only a proper effort is needed to manifest it. Similarly, the Self is what we are, but we are unable to manifest or feel It, because our body and mind are so much given to worldly and sensory delight.

A Guru helps us in experiencing the Self within us. The sadhana or churning has to be done using the Knowledge, which is the greatest purifier. Using the Knowledge as the tool, we have to relieve our mind and buddhi, which is currently sold to raga dvesha.
