Bhagavata Vani Podcast is an official podcast of In service of Srimad Bhagavatam. H.H. Rādhā Govinda Dāsa Goswāmī Mahārāja appeared on the day of the Ratha Yatra Festival, the Great Chariot Festival, in 1949. Just as the chariot becomes a carrier for the Lord of the Universe, Mahārāja became an instrument carrying Śrīmad Bhāgavatam in his heart throughout his life and spreading its message across the world. From childhood, he had a deep attachment to Śrīmad Bhāgavatam. There were instances where he skipped school to read and relish Śrīmad Bhāgavatam in solitude for hours. Whenever he wished to immerse himself in its nectarian mellows, he would climb a tree on the banks of the Durgavati River, place an inverted charpai on its branches, and sit there reading all day.Mahārāja came across news about Śrīla Prabhupāda’s Krishna-bhakti preaching in America. Intrigued, he traveled to Benares to meet the renowned spiritual teacher. When Prabhupāda later set out for Gorakhpur, Mahārāja followed him there. At Krishna Niketan in Gorakhpur, Mahārāja engaged in a discussion with Prabhupāda about the identity of Chaitanya Mahāprabhu. While Mahārāja asserted that Chaitanya Mahāprabhu is Krishna Himself, Prabhupāda firmly stated that He was a devotee of Krishna. Though Mahārāja initially spoke harshly, Prabhupāda responded with hearty laughter. It was only when Prabhupāda’s disciples arrived and offered obeisances that Mahārāja realized he was in the presence of Śrīla Prabhupāda. Pleased with Mahārāja’s devotion, Prabhupāda invited him to his room and continued to express his happiness at Mahārāja’s spirited defense of Chaitanya Mahāprabhu’s divine identity.Perhaps Mahārāja’s most significant contributions are his Bhagavata Kathās, which he has shared across the world through his extensive travels. One notable incident that highlights his deep connection to Śrīmad Bhāgavatam took place in Vṛndāvana Dhāma. Once, Śrīla Prabhupāda noticed a light burning late into the night from a brahmachari’s room. He remarked, “It must be Rādhā Govinda reading the Bhāgavatam.” Indeed, when devotees checked, they found Mahārāja engrossed in the study of Śrīmad Bhāgavatam.
