Episode Synopsis

Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 5:17-18 NLTThis means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to himKey Thought:Jesus models for us what it is to be a GO + TELL kind of person. All of the following verses demonstrate that Jesus was famous for using GENEROUS HOSPITALITY as a way to meet people and invite them into moments that transformed their lives.John 2:2-3 TPT - Jesus’ first miracle, where He turns water into wine. Luke 7:34 TPT, Mark 2:25-16 MSG - Jesus’ reputation as a man who loved to eat with social outcasts. Matthew 15:37-38 TPT - Jesus feeds a multitude. Luke 14:1 TPT - Jesus’ teaches at the table. Luke 22:14-16 TPT - The last thing Jesus wanted to do with his followers before being crucified, was to eat with them.. Luke 24:30-31 TPTP, John 21:12 MSG, Luke 24:41-43 TPT  - Jesus verifies his deity with food. Romans 16:1 MSG - The Jesus way is generous hospitality “In Luke’s Gospel, Jesus is either going to a meal, at a meal or coming from a meal.” - Robert Charis, New Testament ScholarThe Jesus Model for reaching people can be broken down into 4 steps:Jesus MEETSJesus met people right where they were, both geographically and socially. Jesus changed the world one conversation at a time. We shouldn’t  underestimate the power of simply turning up…to church, to life group and being PRESENT with the people God has placed in our world. “Your presence does more to change the world than your tweets ever will.”Jesus EATSGathering around a table together is the great leveller, and Jesus knew this. From tax collectors, priests, prostitutes, and the poor, Jesus ate and drank with them all!  The table elevates the poor and humbles the proud.Jesus SPEAKSJesus didn’t waste his words, He spoke the truth. John 8:31 -32 NLT Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”People are looking to find freedom in their lives and this kind of freedom only comes from knowing the truth. If we withhold TRUTH, we withhold freedom and the TRUTH is a person.  John 14:6 TPT Jesus explained, “I am the Way, I am the Truth, and I am the Life. No one comes next to the Father except through union with me.Jesus ASKSJesus was always inviting people into powerful moments of transformation. He left nothing ambiguous or uncertain.  Today He is still clearly asking us to embark upon the task of reconciling people to Him.  Discussion Questions:Your presence does more to change the world than your tweets ever will. Jesus changed the world one conversation at a time. Can you remember a conversation with someone that deeply moved, inspired, or challenged you? What was it about that conversations that made it so memorable? The table elevates the poor and humbles the proud. What do you think it was about the gathering around a meal that had such a powerful impact on those at the table with Jesus? Why do you think Jesus used these meals to communicate so much of his message? The truth is a person. Jesus was very clear about that a life lived with Him was a life of salvation and freedom. If we know that this truth will set people free, why do we often find it difficult to share this truth with others? How could we use Jesus’ model of reaching others, through generous hospitality, to speak the truth of the gospel to someone this week? Make a Financial Contribution To Beyond Church here: http://flr.ms/2EDSubscribe to our youtube channel here: http://tiny.cc/BeyondYouTubeSubscribe to our Leadership Podcast here: https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/beyond-church-raising-leaders/id1470582090Follow us on facebook here:Cessnock - https://www.facebook.com/Beyond.Church.CessnockScone - https://www.facebook.com/beyond.church.sconeToronto - https://www.facebook.com/Beyond.Church.TorontoOnline - https://www.facebook.com/beyond.church.onlineFind out more about Beyond Church here: Connect with us today: http://flr.ms/Um
