**1. Importance of Baptism**• Matt 28:19 – Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit• Acts 2:38 – "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.• Acts 8:12 – But when they believed Philip as he preached good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.• Acts 8:36 – And as they were going along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, "See, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized?"• Acts 9:18 – And immediately something like scales fell from his eyes, and he regained his sight. Then he rose and was baptized;• Acts 10:47-48 – "Can anyone withhold water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?" 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to remain for some days.• Acts 16:15 – And after she was baptized, and her household as well, she urged us, saying, "If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay." And she prevailed upon us. **2. Meaning of Baptism****a. Baptism symbolizes the union with Christ in His death and Resurrection**• Rom 6:3-4 – Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.**b. Baptism symbolizes the complete cleansing of our sins.**• Acts 2:37-38 – 37 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?" 38 And Peter said to them, "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins,• Acts 22:16 – And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name.'• Titus 3:5 – he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, • Ps 103:11-14 – For as high as the heavens are above the earth, So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him. 12 As far as the east is from the west,So far has He removed our transgressions from us. 13 Just as a father has compassion on his children, So the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him. 14 For He Himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust.• Isa 1:18 – "Come now, and let us reason together," Says the Lord, "Though your sins are as scarlet, They will be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They will be like wool. **c. Baptism symbolizes the true baptism of the Holy Spirit.**• Matt 3:11 – "I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.• Acts 2:38 – "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.• 1 Cor 12:13 – For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body Jews or Greeks, slaves or free and all were made to drink of one Spirit.• 1 Cor 6:19-20 – Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? 20 For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.
