Episode Synopsis

“4 You have not yet resisted to the point of shedding blood in your striving against sin;”Jer 12:55 "If you have run with footmen and they have tired you out, Then how can you compete with horses? If you fall down in a land of peace, How will you do in the thicket of the Jordan? 5 and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons, "MY SON, DO NOT REGARD LIGHTLY THE DISCIPLINE OF THE LORD, NOR FAINT WHEN YOU ARE REPROVED BY HIM; 6 FOR THOSE WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE DISCIPLINES, AND HE SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES." 7 It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8 But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. **Three different things we need to know about God’s discipline.****A. God discipline us perfectly.** **a. 5b…My Son, DO NOT REGARD LIGHTLY THE DISCIPLINE OF THE LORD, NOR FAINT WHEN YOU ARE REPROVED BY HIM;** Ps 42:5-6 5 Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why have you become disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him For the help of His presence. 6 O my God, my soul is in despair within me; **Therefore I remember You from the land of the Jordan And the peaks of Hermon, from Mount Mizar.** 1 Cor 10:13 13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it. **B. God’s discipline is proof of sonship and His love.** a. 7 It is for **discipline that you endure;** God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8 But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. “9 Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them; shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live? 10 For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He disciplines us for our good, so that we may share His holiness.” **C. God’s discipline is for our training.** “9 Furthermore, we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them; **shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live?** 10 For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but **He disciplines us for our good, so that we may share His holiness.”** James 1:2-4 “Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. “ Rom 5:3-5 3 And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; 5 and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. 11 All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness. Matt 5:12 12 **"Rejoice and be glad**, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you. Luke 6:22-23 22 **"Blessed are you when men hate you, and ostracize you, and insult you, and scorn your name as evil,** for the sake of the Son of Man. 23 **"Be glad in that day and leap for joy,** for behold, your reward is great in heaven. For in the same way their fathers used to treat the prophets. **1 Peter 4:12-14** 12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you; 13 but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, **keep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation of His glory you may rejoice with exultation.** 14 If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.
