Shame is the deep sense that you are unacceptable because of something you did, something done to you, or something associated with you. It is a direct assault on the image of God and challenges our sense of worth. The acceptance of Jesus empowers us to risk the rejection of people. He was despised and rejected in every way so that we can be accepted by God in every way.
