In this episode, Mireille Ellsworth, a Hawai’i public school teacher joins Dr. Kelly to discuss her concerns for returning to in-person instruction for the upcoming school year. Mireille describes how she transformed her concerns into a grassroots campaign, full of creative ideas for advocating for a safe return to schools. Mireille discusses with Dr. Kelly how she and her colleagues effectively advocated for additional training for teachers and a delay in the start of in-person school for the 20-21 school year. Mireille describes the 4-phase plan her group feels is needed for us to safely return to our public school campuses. Mireille speaks candidly about teachers experiences with DOE “COVID-training” and the type of PPE teachers in Hawai’i have actually received.
