The foundation of the Christian faith is belief in a story. But what about the other stories that get tangled with Christianity? Everything from the big conspiracies of QAnon and End Times prophecies to pop culture claims of Taylor Swift and Wicked indoctrinating our children with witchcraft and evil. Unverifiable claims of stolen elections, hidden agendas and people in power who can control the weather are modern ideologies that pervade our current timeline. As Christians, how do we know who to believe and what’s true? How do we live in the world but not of it? When does belief in a story become holy paranoia? And how do we keep from getting sucked into it?
Theologian and ethicist Jared Stacy is here to help us understand why conspiracy theories are so prevalent among people of faith and why, as Christians, we need to pay attention to them. Let’s look at digital media and fact checking through a Christian lens.
