Listen "When to Lean In and When to Step Back: Rhythms for Motherhood."
Episode Synopsis
I can pour in, and I can be poured into. I can lean in close, and I can step back andbreathe. I can engage fully, and I can retreat to be renewed. I can be present, and I can find reprieve. I can hold space for others, and I can hold space formyself. What cultural Christianity often sounds like: A good mom sacrifices everything with a smile. If you're weary, you're probably not spiritual enough. Holiness=busyness for others. It's all about performing and proving. It uses religious words but is powered by guilt and comparison. Not grace. What Jesus actually offers--Come to me all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Jesus withdrew often to lonely places to pray. He did not heal every person in Israel . He lived within limits. Joy in the spirit isn’t forced—it flows from abiding, not pretending. Sacrifice is rooted in love, not compulsion. We are all being invited into compassionate motherhood--not a performingor striving one. A motherhood that says, I’m not limitless, but I am beloved. Myreprieve is good, my leaning in is ok. And both together make me whole.
