This hymn is filled with theological content. In the first verse, we cry out with Israel for Christ to come and give His presence. The second verse relates a cry for light in the midst of darkness. The Father sends the Son to bring life and light to those that receive Him. Verse 3 begs God to reveal His wisdom and to cause us to follow Him. The final verse relays the desire of all nations for lasting peace that can only come from God. Emmanuel come again and establish peace forever.
