Ben Jam, Brain Kat Records hed honcho and 90's old skool raver.
A DJ since 1989 playing early House and breakbeat Rave tracks in small independent clubs in Essex UK as DJ Chill'm. This evolved with the Rave scene into Jungle and Drum & Bass, before a switch back to House & Garage in 1994. The following 10 years were spent DJing all over London and the South of England with many residencies and guest spots. It all started at Bar EST in Soho, before a 6 year residency at Covent Gardens Detroit Bar. During which Ben established himself as a firm favourite on the House circuit with many unique nights and guest spots. Ben was also resident at F@vouritizm with Sarah Foote, Summerhouse with Robin Burrowses and a regular guest at Funkshoppe, Bar Rumba, Better Days at The Retreat, 333 Hoxton, Poo Na Na Islington, the Buffalo Bar, Medicine Bar, Gatecrasher @ Heaven & so many more.
During this time Ben worked in London for Nigel Sweeney @ Intermedia (Part of Gut of Records) as a TV & Radio Plugger, looking after Artists such as U2, The Rolling Stones, Jamiroquai, Kylie Minogue, Janet Jackson, Deep Dish, Bjork and Eddie Izzard among many more. Ben also looked after promotions at some of the most iconic festivals in the UK, including Creamfields, Reading Festival, Leeds Festival plus MadStock and the Guinness Fleadh in Finsbury Park.
In 1998 Ben met Jeremy Sylvester at Detroit Bar in Covent Garden. This began a journey leading to the present day where Ben also produces.
With his Favouritzm DJ partner Sarah Foote, they started broadcasting 'Favouritizm Live' on Trust the DJ Radio in 2001 along with many other Big time DJs. It was at this time, Bens Australian Partner became pregnant which started his emigration process
In 2004 Ben emigrated to Perth , Western Australia with his Aussie partner and baby girl. This is where Brain Kat Records was born. With many releases and Remixes including tracks on Eight Fifteen, Illegal Cargo, Transport Recordings and my own label Brain Kat Records.
