Listen "2022 ADM+S Symposium: 'Automating Precarity'"

Episode Synopsis

Globally, the e-commerce sector has boomed over the last couple years, benefitting greatly from social reshaping by the pandemic. The ascendency of Amazon – and its aggressive entrance into Australia – has been at the centre of much public attention. This panel, based on an ADM+S Seed Fund project, expands the critical analysis of e- commerce. Rather than universalize the Amazon model, our original empirical and theoretical research shows how warehouses contain a much greater diversity of techno-managerial systems for governing labour and logistics in e-commerce. Join ADM+S researchers, Jathan Sadowski and Lauren Kelly, and senior principal engineer at Intel, Melissa Gregg, for a discussion on the systems that underpin modern society: labour, logistics, and technology.

Speakers:
Dr Melissa Gregg, Intel
Lauren Kelly, RMIT University
Dr Jathan Sadowski, Monash University (Host)
