In addition to violating a federal mandate, a rearview camera that displays a blank or distorted image can reduce the driver’s rear view and increase the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect and repair the deck lid wiring harness and replace the rearview camera, as necessary, for free. Owners will first receive an interim letter notifying them of the safety risk beginning March 7; a second letter will be sent once a fix is available.
