Jesus is the GREATEST example we have. He is perfect. He was sinless here on Earth. With that being said, Matthew 26: 21-25 is PROFOUND in our understanding of the earlier passages of Matthew 5: 44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you. When Judas betrays Jesus, you see no change of his love toward him. None of the disciples even knew who had betrayed him. What that means for us is that His love is the greatest example of how to deal with those we know have betrayal in their hearts. We are to love them DESPITE what we know of their intentions or what they've done to us, or what they will do. Why I've titled this: Where Your Thoughts Lie, Your Heart Lies, is because Judas didn't even know he betrayed Jesus. He asked Jesus if it was him. First comes thoughts, then comes actions. This is a call to look inwardly. Ask the Lord to search your heart. Allow Him to prune you. Invite Him in to open your heart and to uncover the depths of things you have underlying. Unforgiveness, complaints, cursing, hatred - these all live within the heart. They did not formulate there overnight. There were thoughts that took place in our minds that began to fester and to take root. There was an open door for them to sink and take home. Judas opened the door to greed and trying to control the outcome which is how and why he betrayed Jesus.We must repent and take note of our hearts. We need daily sanctification, daily purging, daily forgiveness, and daily time with the Lord to continue to live out the same way he did when Judas betrayed him. Love them and do so wholeheartedly. Even if you know the depths of their heart.
