Listen "“Lower Extremity Angiosarcoma: A Life-Threatening Complication of Lymphedema” with Dr Afsaneh Alavi"

Episode Synopsis

In this episode of Words on Wounds, Dr Afsaneh Alavi describes the rare but life-threatening complication of angiosarcoma developing in the setting of chronic lymphedema, known as Stewart-Treves syndrome. Although it is usually seen in chronic lymphedema of the upper limbs postmastectomy, it can occur in the lower limbs as well. Dr Alavi recommends that providers include angiosarcoma in the differential diagnosis of ulcerative or vascular tumors arising in the context of lower extremity lymphedema.
