Listen "LAUSD faces a decrease in student enrollment due to ICE raids"
Episode Synopsis
In education, the Los Angeles Unified School District has reportedly had a decrease in enrollment in new students due to immigration raids by the Trump Administration. In the last year, LAUSD is projected to lose 7,000 more students. The school district first became a sanctuary district in 2016 and consistently reaffirmed its policy. This helped prevent cooperation with immigration enforcement without a judicial warrant and to protect student information. Annenberg Media's Zoe Fan spoke with USC Professor of Clinical Education Maria Ott about the fear of family separation, among other factors, that LAUSD students are facing today.
