The US government shutdown on 1st October after Congress failed to pass appropriations legislation for the 2026 fiscal year. As a result, over 900,000 government employees went on unpaid leave and a further two million worked without pay.By 12th November, the Congressional standoff between Republicans and Democrats was coming to an end. The Senate passed a new funding bill which was signed into law by President Donald Trump. The end of the shutdown means the 2026 National Defence Authorisation Act (NDAA) can be passed into law.
