Listen "Meditation: Two Meditative Poems"
Episode Synopsis
Poetry (and other art forms) have been part of Chan/Zen practice since its origins in Ancient China. This tradition has been passed down through excellent translations of classical Chinese poetry and Japanese Haiku. These works influenced western poets from the 1950’s onwards, to explore the wilds of the mind and the restorative power of wilderness. The classic Chinese text, the Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu, has influenced numerous poets and Zen practitioners. Writing and performing these meditative poems I see as a core practice in our OzZen program.
