You know, when we think about the cross of Christ, it really does impress upon us the stark contrast between the ultimate expression of love and compassion and the unremitting display of wickedness and cruelty. One of the many acts of careless indifference were those of the soldiers who actually played games of chance at the foot of the cross. They were gambling for mere clothing as three men suffered on crosses right in front of them. Though callous as this is, many people even today are gambling with their souls, frittering away precious moments on things that don’t matter.
