Episode Synopsis

This one’s personal.

Before I ever sold homes or told stories through real estate, my grandfather and uncle were telling stories through architecture.

They were part of Master, Sathe & Bhuta—a pioneering firm that helped shape the face of modern India in the early 20th century.

In this episode, I step back in time to explore how three men—Chimanlal Master, Laxman Vishnu Sathe, and my grandfather’s family, the Bhutas—created India’s first all-Indian-led architecture firm.
Their buildings didn’t just rise from the streets of Bombay (now Mumbai). They rose from a dream—a Swadeshi vision of independence, expressed through sweeping curves, intricate details, and bold Art Deco design.

You’ll hear about the firm’s landmark projects like the New India Assurance Building and Lakshmi Insurance Building, their role in mentoring young architects, and how their collaborative spirit redefined what it meant to be “modern” under colonial rule.

And I’ll share the story of Vanu Bhuta, the architect of Mahatma Gandhi’s Samadhi at Rajghat, whose quiet rebellion against Jawaharlal Nehru over design philosophy says everything about his integrity and artistry.

This isn’t just an episode about architecture—it’s a story about legacy, identity, and how creativity runs through generations.

For me, it’s also a way of connecting to the roots that shaped not just buildings, but values that still guide how I create, collaborate, and see the world today.

If you ever want to buy or sell a property anywhere in the world, our team would be honored to help get you to your next destination.

Until next time, stay curious, stay hungry, and as always… stay ALL IN!
