Listen "Missed Opportunities"
Episode Synopsis
The 50th podcast of All About Baseball recalls two encounters I had when I was 14, in the summer of 1971. The first was a brief phone call with Detroit Tiger outfielder, Jim Northrup, who, out of left field, called me at home, with the assistance of my father. The second encounter was a face-to-face conversation with Tigers' General Manager Jim Campbell in the Executive Lounge in the recesses of Tiger Stadium. I wish that I could say that these two conversations were rich in detail and insight, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Because I uttered only a handful of words in each, both were eminently forgettable, save for the lasting lesson that I learned and still apply.
